Mac Permissions for Virbela

November 22nd, 2023

Knowledge

To allow the Virbela application to access your microphone, webcam, or screen on a mac, do the following:

Look for the System Settings or System Preferences Pane. It's typically on your dock, or you can click on the Apple icon on the top left of your screen and then choose “System Settings” or System Preferences” depending on your OS version.

You will then go to the "Privacy & Security" tab. From there, look for the permissions you need to adjust or reset. These are usually the Microphone, Camera, and Screen Recording options.

Microphone permissions

For your microphone, ensure that you have the permission for Virbela toggled to the enabled position (pictured below). You will need to open the Virbela application at least once for this permission to appear.

If you have the Virbela application open during these processes, you will have to close and reopen it for the changes to take effect.

Camera permissions

You will need to open the Virbela application at least once and perform a camera-share on a WebBoard for this permission to appear. Ensure you have the permission for Virbela toggled to the enabled position.

For multiple camera setups, please consider disconnecting, disabling, or uninstalling all but your primary camera. Choosing a camera is not an option in the Virbela application.

Screen Recording

For Screen Recording you will need to run the application at least once and attempt to perform a Screen Share from a WebBoard. Once you do so, you may be confronted with the following message.

If the Virbela application does not appear in your System Preferences > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording section, please click the “Reset Permissions” button as instructed, close the application, relaunch, and try the Screen Share once more.

If these steps do not resolve any issues with your MacOS Virbela permissions, please use the “Contact Support” button on this webpage, or reach out to Help@Virbela.com for assistance.

Advanced Tips: FOR MACOS EXPERTS ONLY

2. You may reset ALL MacOS permissions for Virbela Open Campus by using the following Terminal command:

For applications other than the Virbela Open Campus, you will need to modify these instructions to suit your specific application.
